How Will You Spend Leap Day?

I met George in Norman, Oklahoma, in 1986, where he hired me to teach at VCU -- thus he brought Don and me to our beloved home in Virginia. We love him for many reasons, but this is my first, best memory. -- Norma Pierce
ReplyDeleteVCU's Temple Building in which Mass Comm is housed is testimony to George's determination and ability to negotiate the bureaucracy. After years in the Franklin Street gym, which smelled VERY MUCH like a gym, and then in the townhouse across the street, the new building was a palace. But it took untold meetings that apparently went on and on and on . . . . George swore that no one representing any of the departments to be housed in the new building ever dared miss a meeting because they knew their hard-won gains would be lost.
